Then again these guys are guaranteed their 3 meals a day and sleeping quarters if they're confined. That makes them happy, so they might as well get into trouble. |

LION supports corporal punishment for scum under 35ys. They ain't worth the jail space. Give them their stripes and send them home. Eventually they will get the hint or end up with a real prison sentence for something.But for kids, (15-35) stripes will do for the small stuff. Stripes are administered by a court official using proper technique and equipment so someone can not claim that they got it harder than the other guy. It is in the sentence, it is what the judge ordered. ROAR |

But MD/DC/VA a couple years ago passed a coordinated set of laws that doubles the penalty for assaults on transit workers. I thought that it was based on NY State law but can't find that reference either. |

The maximum penalty is leverage to convince the defendant to plead guilty in exchange for a lighter sentence and avoid a trial.2. The plan is to replace Rikers with mainland jails, not to eliminate all jails entirely. And Rikers isn't a prison. People serving longer sentences go upstate. 3. If that were really true, then the criminals who supposedly want to commit crimes just to go inside wouldn't stab people or do other really violent things. |
