Subway Toilets Reflect the American Character

Posted by heypaul on Fri May 18 21:45:08 2018

It was Alexis de Tokenville who visited the U.S. in 1831 and carefully studied the subway restrooms in New York and Philadelphia. He observed that the squalid conditions in the restrooms (lack of hot water, lack of 3 ply toilet tissue and hot towels and lack of antibiotic soap) spoke volumes about the decadence of the American people.

Thomas Crapper would care if he was still alive. He was the inventor of the flush toilet.

Thomas Crapper was an eminent Victorian plumbing fixture manufacturer. He made some technical improvements in the flush toilet, but was not its inventor; it can be traced back to Elizabethan times. And “crap” for excrement far predates him; his name is a happy(?) coincidence.
