In photo #1, is the lead car a Penn & Reading Shore Line Car?
I ask because of the Owl eye Windows and the trolley Pole.

You are correct. That is a P-RSL MU train. Electric service lasted til about 1949 with service to Glassboro, Newfield, and Millville. Electric service to Atlantic City via Newfield was discontinued much earlier, about 1931. This was originally West Jersey & Seashore, a subsidiary of the PRR.

Fabulous find Bill, thanks.
The PRR car on the "Ma & Pa" is an mP54 steam coach. It has no washroom in the near corner while P70's had them in both diagonal corners. It is not an mPB54 combine either as their lavatory would be in this corner. Diagrams at Robert Schoenberg's site . Based on the people and the borrowed car I wonder if this is a railfan excursion.

Hi Avid, the trailing car (markers) on the Vineland Local is a PRSL MP-2 wooden MU which was built with steel ends. Here's a photo roster at SJ Rails . The trolley pole was for street running in Gloucester City where third rail wasn't allowed (how would it work anyway).

I believe those cars at Camden, NJ were wood bodied and not steel.

I can’t be sure of that but they certainly look like steel to me. The design of the cars with the porthole windows seems to indicate a design contemporary with the LIRR MP54s which were steel. I don’t think that any RR would have continued to order wooden cars once it was proven that all steel cars like the IRT Gibbs and the LIRR MP-41s were practical.

The Washington DC car isn't a PCC. It's a Brill. Brill never joined the PCC consortium.

AsI mentioned in my other post, why would a RR continue to order wooden coaches when the practicality of all steel construction had already been established?

Steel was practical but not cheaper, I think this was a pretense of safety on a poorly performing subsidiary. Anyway the description and picture in the linked roster confirm the reality.

That car is not a Brilliner but a St Louis built pre PCC. There was a total of 20 pre pCC streamliners 10 from Brill and 10 from St Louis. The one in the photo is a St Louis built car.

They may have been since the 2 Av El to the Bx had just ceased operations and there were fewer Composites required for the remaining 3 Av exp service.

Those Composites look pretty decrepit compared with the 3-car set of gates in the foreground. My guess is that they were part of the group of Composites that were taken out of service in 1938.

Is that a MP54D car? They came equipped with both third rail and also trolley poles. PRSL used them until 1949.

Though off in the distance in this photo, in their deteriorating condition, I wonder if this was the same group of Composites shown as being ready to scrap, in one of Roger Arcara's videos (2nd & 3rd ave. el video IIRC?), of film clips he assembled from various sources.
