Probably just "Independent Lines," with destinations - uptown, downtown, Bronx, Queens, etc. Back in the day, station names were not listed on the sidewalk signs. |

Forest Ave lost an entire mezzanine, I'm not sure when it closed, but it was demolished in the early 90s when I was a little kid.it closed decades ago. Probably in the late 60's. But the entrance to the stairs on the platform was covered with boards so people could not enter. At some point a guy realized it was an obstruction and raped a woman there. NYCT ended up leveling the entrance remnants at platform level creating a flat surface so the entire length of the platform could be seen. |

The entrances/exits at 102nd Street-Liberty Avenue on the IND Fulton Street Line's 104th Street(Oxford Avenue) station had reopened, as part of the station rehab project. There is no crossunder there, so each of them are separate in each direction, and use HEET's.-William A. Padron ["Fulton-Lefferts Blvd."] |

At 175th Street and Morris Avenue right under the Concourse, well preserved. Also East and west sides of Concourse near Anthony Avenue - these are sealed-up. Smith Street Staircases (Re: List of closed New York City Subway entrances) |

Posted by Mitch45 on Wed Jan 31 15:23:19 2018, in response to List of closed New York City Subway entrances, posted by Union Tpke on Mon Jan 29 16:48:39 2018. There used to be two entrances on Smith Street between Livingston and Fulton in downtown Brooklyn. One was located in the sidewalk of what is now 1 Smith Street (the old Schrafft's store) and the other was across the street adjacent to what is now Lane Bryant. Until fairly recently, the one next to Lane Bryant still had the ironwork for the lighted globe and decorative rails that surround the stairway. The staircase itself was covered with a flimy piece of corrugated steel, the same kind that covers the cellar stairways for storefronts. I think in 2016 NYCT took off the corrugated steel and I was able to look down the stairs. The entrance was then concreted off and all of the ironwork was removed. What station did these stairs lead to? If it was Jay Street/Boro Hall, they must have been at the very far end of the station. |

Yeah, there were at for Jay Street-Borough Hall, and before the re-tiling of the station, including on the platforms, there were small directional mosaics for "Smith Street".
