Smith Street Staircases (Re: List of closed New York City Subway entrances)

Posted by Mitch45 on Wed Jan 31 15:23:19 2018, in response to List of closed New York City Subway entrances, posted by Union Tpke on Mon Jan 29 16:48:39 2018.

There used to be two entrances on Smith Street between Livingston and Fulton in downtown Brooklyn. One was located in the sidewalk of what is now 1 Smith Street (the old Schrafft's store) and the other was across the street adjacent to what is now Lane Bryant. Until fairly recently, the one next to Lane Bryant still had the ironwork for the lighted globe and decorative rails that surround the stairway. The staircase itself was covered with a flimy piece of corrugated steel, the same kind that covers the cellar stairways for storefronts. I think in 2016 NYCT took off the corrugated steel and I was able to look down the stairs. The entrance was then concreted off and all of the ironwork was removed.

What station did these stairs lead to? If it was Jay Street/Boro Hall, they must have been at the very far end of the station.
