Budd no longer existed, first it was renamed to Transit America. then the German owner (thystenAG) shut it down. property became city owned due to years of no taxes paid. |

And I didn't know it was for a whopping 404 cars; where do they think they're expanding to? Will they finally break down and get some "dual-power" locos from NJT too? (lol) |

Budd Company became part of Budd Thyssen in 1978 and in 1999 a part of ThyssenKrupp Budd. Body and chassis operations were sold to Martinrea International in 2006. No longer an operating company, Budd filed for bankruptcy in 2014. It currently exists to provide benefits to its retirees. |

Should have gone with Bombardier, for better technical merit and an off the shelf proven design. If they're piggybacking off of MBTA's order these cars will also be too tall for NYP, making them un-Amtrakable.Hopefully not 3x2 seating either. The combination of fatter Americans and more space on trains has made it pointless - the large mid-tier area fits plenty of standees if it has longitudinal seating. |

Thayco , (Bill Thayer, Coopersberg, Pa.)bought Budd Company Trailer Division, and after the first year, business declined more, and a last ditch effort to build a large quantity of "stock" dry vans and get them to distributers only worked partially. (When we were in the process of being bought by Thayco, Bill Thayer had all of us in a meeting and told us to let him buy he company , he was a expert in semitrailers, blah , blah, blah). Well, it turned out I wasn't with them at the end, I had fire at my home in the garage and was recovering in the Chester-Crozier burn center at that time. My wife got a hold of Thayco's personnel director and was able to get me disability pay and severance pay. Thayco went out of business while I was in the hospital. |

I figure there'll be no toilets but DVARP got them to do 2x2 for the Silverliner V middle section. 2x2 has been the standard for Northeast Bilevels starting with the LIRR C3s - it just might happen.And, considering I'd rather stand than take a middle seat, the extra standee space created by getting rid of the middle seat is a plus. |

One of the last semi-trailers I saw at Thayco and helped design. Air Products closed van for carrying gas bottles normally carried on an open truck. We had a lot of vents in this unit.Thayco Sorry the photo is so small, you can see some of the vents, above and below the belt line in yellow. |
