Pausing at various points shows the following:- front destination sign split into two parts, right side longer than the left side. - front RFW window is rectangular from top to bottom, and vertical. It extends below the bottom window sashes for both the motorman and the left side passenger window. RFW window on the Steinway World's Fair is rectangular, narrower, and horizontle, its bottom sash is at the same height as the windows in the side doors. - pausing at about 47:15 - close up of the train - you can see that there are four sets of two leaf doors, and window arrangement is IND - four large wndows centered between the doors, with the two smaller square windows having rounded corners, on either side, designed over the door pocket. |

The action takes place in a subway during the 1919-1933 Prohibition period. The State Street Subway did not open until 1943. Chicago was all elevated during Prohibition. |

I thought that too, but the position of the front end running lights vs the marker lights is more R-9. It may be that the front view is of an R-9 and the side view is of a W/F Steinway, since that’s kind of what it looks like to me. |

At the time the Untouchable series would have taken place, the only underground station in Chicago that would have even resembled a subway station was the terminal for the Illinois Central commuter service. Another faux pas I mentioned in another post on the Untouchables is a scene that shows Ness making a meetup on an elevated platform and a train of IRT R-15s passes by somewhere on the Flushing Line. |

Differences between this and an R1-9:Pantograph gate appears stuck to the front. Doors appear to be single leaf despite having two door pockets. Side route sign is missing. Side sign is at middle windows, should be at forward end of each car. Truck frames have large flat surfaces on the front here which aren't there on R1-9 trucks Marker lights are too low. Just below the top of the roof on an R1-9 Width is off. Appears to be A division sized. I am sure this is a prop of some kind. Perhaps one built out of an old train of the time, but certainly not a real R1-9 |

Actually, the R-1s and R-4s did have window shades, a feature not on the later R-6 through R-9 cars and they were removed from the earlier cars although I do remember seeing a few scattered window shades on some of the earlier cars that escaped removal. As a bit of trivia, the lady in the movie started carrying around a life sized baby doll so she could get a seat in the subway as was shown in the clip. In the last scene, of the movie she found she no longer needed it and If I recall, she gave it to a male friend of hers on the train who threw it out the train window much to the shock of the restive the passengers. |

F QUEENS EXPRESS?Well, Hollywood can't always be accurate. The subway car set had window shades and what looked like Low-V porcelain hand straps. There's another subway scene later on in the film that has the destination route sign box reading "Wash Hts-207th St - D - Concourse Express !!" Bill Newkirk |

Did the roll signs ever say simply "Queens Express" for the F, rather than "6th Ave. Express"? And why show a station with "Spring St." signs? The footage of the train in the tunnel shows "E" on the front rollsign, rather than "F", so maybe it wasn't really made even for this movie? They probably could have blacked out the bottom line of the "E" to make it into an "F" if anyone cared.Anyway, the title "Pretty Baby" makes me think of the much later, and very different, movie with Brooke Shields. |

Whether or not the car was real, the real Frank Nitti (real name- Nitto) shot himself in the head twice in a train yard in 1943. He got drunk to give himself the courage to do it. He yanked the first shot, which went through his fedora hat. The second one didn't miss. |

I have noticed that sometimes if I don’t examine what I type extremely carefully, words show up that bear absolutely no resemblance to what I actually typed and they are not necessarily typos either since the wrong letters that appear are nowhere near the keys that I actually pressed. |

F service could have operated through Spring St although most of the time it didn’t. However in the mid 1960s, there were 2 Fs in the AM rush that went to Hudson Terminal and returned so they would have stopped at Spring St. They carried green over the cab and red opposite marker lights. |

Even though Frank Nitti did off himself, both the Untouchables TV series and the full length Untouchables movie show him as being killed although in 2 different ways. |

But the "Spring St." sign in the movie is at what seems to be the first stop of the train, and it doesn't look like an IND sign. Probably the most unrealistic thing about that station is how close the train is to the turnstiles. |

I guess I have done that too, typing "their" instead of "there", etc. It doesn't seem to make sense that people would do that if they know the difference, but it seems to happen. I guess part of the mind hears what it wants to say, and you wind up typing letters that would make those sounds. Even in this post, I first typed "done that to" in the second sentence, and only corrected it to "too" when I read it over. |

They should have uses an authentic R-1/9 and shot it at then then-abandoned Court Street station. The moving scenes could have been easily shot with the car running between Court and Hoyt. |
