Each vehicle is 150 feet long, 10 feet wide and can reach a max speed of 47 mp/hDescription somewhat deceiving. The cars are 75' married pairs, same as they are using now. Why are they retiring the Budds so soon? The Budds are almost as old as WMATAs 1k car. Baltimore batch of Budds I believe have been rehabilitated. To my knowledge the Miami Budds have never been rehabilitated. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |

The cars are 33 years old and never had a mid-life refurbishment. At this point new ones probably cost less than refurbishment, especially when future maintenance is taken into account. |

Miami has always had a big surplus of cars so they do not rack up as many miles per day as a fully-utilized fleet.WMATA visitors are continually agape at how Miami can run a full rush hour schedule and still have a bunch of good cars in the yard unused. |

Miami's UTV's were built in the 1983 time period and are low mileage compared with the DC 1k cars. If anything they should have gotten a Baltimore or PATCO style rebuild. Much cheaper. |

Baltimore and or Los Angles should purchase them and do said rehabilitation. There has been some low volume noise on extending the east side of the Baltimore Metro out towards Parkville.John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |

Miami also had a surprisingly low number of long-term-unrepairable yard queens.John, are you saying it is possible that WMATA's car shortage results in OVERutilization which results in no time to maintain the cars (at least outside a short overnight window) which results in a lot more broken cars which results in even more car shortage? |

John, are you saying it is possible that WMATA's car shortage results in OVERutilization which results in no time to maintain the cars (at least outside a short overnight window) which results in a lot more broken cars which results in even more car shortage? That pretty much sums it up. You run the crap out of something, the wheels will fall off sooner then later. In my opinion WMATAs rail car fleet should be twice it's number. If all of the above had taken place.
