HBLR to resume into Hoboken

Apparently Friday (30) morning.

Given what happened, will there be a way for folks to get through the terminal to PATH or buses?

Are you sure about this ?

The NTSB has to investigate the crash before the crash train and debris are removed.

Two different ends of the terminal. From what I can tell and maybe in error as this is a personal observation from when I've visited the terminal, (end disclaimer for needed for certain subchat creatures) the train accident north, HLBR is on the south side and well away from the terminal building. You could rope off half the terminal on the inside and still have room. Most people from HBLR are going to the Ferry and some of those slips you don't even enter the terminal.

The issue is that the derailed train is blocking the main pedestrian thoroughfare between the HBLR and southern tracks and the buses and PATH to the north. But as I noted earlier, there are other ways around.

Even if part of the terminal building is roped off (as I expect it would have to be), that still means part of it isn't, so I guess there's no asbestos scare about entering it. Any route from the HBLR station (which is partly in Jersey City, despite it's name, I'm pretty sure) to the PATH station has to come fairly close to the wreck site, doesn't it? Or is there a way people can be routed east of the entire building?

Lou: NJT can run HBLR into the Hoboken Light Rail Terminal. I don't know what happens when they get there. They can walk south to Pavonia.

If they are going to allow them to access PATH they can do that using the southernmost door to the waiting room . That would give them access to both PATH and the ferries. It will be interesting to hear from someone who can get down there.

What I don't understand is the busing from Secaucus to Liberty State Park. Passengers from up north can transfer to trains to Penn Station, but what's at Liberty State Park but a mile long walk to the Liberty Landing Ferry which is not set up to handle a lot of people?

Keep up the good work at Branford.

PANYNJ.com/path says it is, and so is the ferry.

I understand some will gripe about the (debatable) asbestos sitch.

Only thing I can think of is it gets any riders who are going from the Bayonne or West End branches of HBLR to their NJ Transit train that would otherwise have left from Hoboken.

Is that a lot of people though?

Actually, the posted advisory mentions the rationale.

"Customers wishing to go from Secaucus to the Jersey City waterfront should use the shuttle bus service to Liberty State Park and make connection to Hudson Bergen Light Rail."

So basically the idea seems to be to make Secaucus the replacement-Hoboken in terms of HBLR connections.

HBLR access at Hoboken: the facts

I went over to Hoboken Terminal this afternoon to check it out. The terminal building and concourse are completely closed off, as is the exit from the PATH station that goes directly inside. The exit to the street is open. To get to HBLR, you have to walk on the sidewalk across from the terminal to the ferry slips. Then, there is a passageway through one of the ferry slip arches that leads behind the terminal building and finally south of it out to the area where HBLR is. Lots of security personnel all around. Since they saw me looking around and even directed me on how to get to the light rail, I didn't want to walk back out past the same people (lots of "see something, say something" signs around, although not using that exact phrase), so I walked south along the Riverwalk (or whatever it's called) to the Newport PATH station instead to get back.

As long as it's accessible to the public, you can walk there as many times as you want.

It still looks weird to walk back and forth. Though "just trying to get a peek at the damage" is a pretty non-threatening way to dismiss any inquiry by the constabulary...
