It's here for sure, RTO now lists the Second Ave Line in the GO Section.

The CWR Train is being utilized for rail installation on S1 (Brooklyn Bound) Track between 72 and 96th Sts, while the Track Geometry Car will be doing its rounds on S2 (96th St Bound) from Lexington Av to the end of the line.

Second Avenue isn't electrified yet.

Heh. It doesn't show the W as terminating at Whitehall. That should be good for about 1,000 posts here.

I read the Gothamist article- neat. So I figured I'd check out the official MTA site. I went to the "maps" tab, and got a 503 error- "out site is currently unavailable".

Then I went back about 2 minutes later- the site is back up, and shows the actual existing service pattern. I guess some of the bosses thought better about showing service that does not actually exist, and I caught them in the moment of making the switch. Enthusiastic as I am about the SAS, I don't think it's smart to show service that doesn't exist in any form yet.

Of course, in the 1970s old maps were left in place for years on trains and in stations- so in 1977 or so, some folks may have gone looking for the MJ...but I digress.

Around Christmas I took a stroll on Second Ave and the Entrances for 96th Street was already built with escalators and all. I can only imagine how far along it is now.

I remember that. At times the Manhattan Bridge was completely closed to all subway trains, so Q trains ran via tunnel and express up Broadway. I rode on one such train, an R-68 consist with the half cab facing out on one of the lead motors. Great RFW view!

Much better than the present R service.

Why shouldn't the R be moved to 96th st when it opens?

SAS has to be from the express tracks, so it makes little sense to have the Q and R swap tracks at 42nd St for this to work. N to 96th St, Q to Queens, and R to Astoria could work except for the whole "no yard" problem for the R...
