Weird dream about 76th Street |

Posted by Union Tpke on Sun May 1 11:26:31 2016 A few nights ago I had a dream about 76th Street. I met a guy who had some blueprints for 76th Street. He told me that the tunnel was sealed up as there were covert Soviet operations taking place in the tunnel. Weird dream. |

The train from Moscow to St. Petersberg/ Leningrad was an overnight ride. So consequently, many couples booked sleepers back and forth on the weekends. |

I had a dream once in which R-1 259 headed a n/b Abbott at 59th. The weird part is that 259 had a drop sash storm door window. IINM none of the R-1/9s ever had drop sash storm door windows.I also had a dream in which 7 trains ran at ground level at Willets Point and they used interurban cars. Then there's the one I had the other night: The I Love Lucy line ran at ground level on the Hillside Ave. stretch and it had R-68 Fred trains. They teetered as they rounded the curve into Van Vyck Blvd. |

In my other post, I said that I usually dreamt of little-used tunnels. However, in one recent exception, I vividly dreamt that the TA had revived the idea of using 2 mismatched letters, like the "RJ" for rush-hour service.I don't remember the exact combinations, but the routes, limited to a few peak-hour runs were crazy- like Jamaica Center to 95th-Bay Ridge or something. The service was provided exclusively by R160s, as almost any route can be configured on those.. |

My aunt was a regular South Shore commuter and my mother would go visit her from time to time after she moved to Chicago. Up to 1970, South Shore trains came all the way to downtown South Bend. The station was at the corner of S. Michigan St. and LaSalle Ave. My father and I would wait for her train at an adjoining parking lot, and you'd see the headlight in the distance once the train came off the curve into LaSalle. The only time I ever rode on them was on a round trip to Chicago on April 1 and 2, 1967, two weeks before we left South Bend. They had spur-cut gears, but I don't remember hearing them moan or groan. That would come a month later on May 7 on a three-car AA train. Even by the mid-60s, those Insull-era cars were showing their age. |
