They are mooching off the backs of people who ride the subway a rapid transit type of distance, since they are in effect using the subway as a commuter train. I can't blame them, since they don't have any other option though.

Yup. And they should build the 270 loop at Secaucus as part of Gateway so that the whole system can run trains directly into NYP, and then use the busses just as local feeders to the rail system. That would also allow them to add MORE bus service within NJ that serves NJ, and doesn't go to NY.

However, looking at the bus maps, I also see that there is a MASSIVE demand for commutation to NYC from Hudson county. If Gateway offers more service into Penn, that could take some of the pressure off of PATH, and PATH could serve more people in Hoboken and the surrounding areas, but the northern part of Hudson County needs better ferry service to Manhattan.

Sounds like the LIRR needs to be fixed. They certainly could offer a lot of service on the RBB, some of it via the Atlantic Ave line.

The shuttle train thing is completely idiotic, although the lack of the third track is a big part of that problem. I think they should stop throating, and let the slimeballs who oppose the third track change their tune when they have to Japanese subway-pack the M-7's.

Yes, I'm saying then also that Rockaway residents should be kept in the one-fare zone as long as they have subway service.

And that's what makes your arguments totally pointless. Nobody else cares about the difference.

Then everyone should stop making stupid arguments that somehow I should ride on some little POS bus to JFK, and not on a nice, efficient, traffic-jam avoiding train.

We're not discussing what you personally should do.

And we mostly agree that rail, where built, is going to be more efficient than bus.

Right now, however, a bus may have an advantage by being able to take roads that trains do not have access to. There are more roads than there are railways.

Traffic ebbs and flows. There will be times when the bus will win. I would say, for example, at night without much street traffic you will be running a greater risk by using rail for this particular trip.

I'm not, you're the one over here dictating that people should take your assanine route and that if they want to take the faster, more convenient bus, it's because they're lazy; Or that all taxis should be banned from the airport because not wanting to take the train to the city with your luggage is only because people are lazy and no other reason could possibly exist. Please, spare us your nonsense

We're not discussing the merits of busses vs. rail. Busses have their place to fill in the gaps where rail doesn't. Going from CT to JFK is not a gap, it's an entire trip on it's own, so busses don't even factor into the picture. And it's not public transit, so it also doesn't factor in. While in NYC, normal people ride busses, in CT, public transit busses are for people who are too poor to own a car, or old people who can't handle driving around. Anyone who is able drives their own car here in land of the suburban sprawl, unless one of our 2 going on 3 commuter rail lines is available.
