I'd be willing to bet the same as the arnines in their final days. Clogged and/or leaking pipe. Condensation did nasty things to that piping over the years. And with them sitting up on horses all those years with that fine Coney Island salt air must have really done wonders. |

Wow, I'm a little digital illiterate, but if I can figure out how (or be shown how) to pull .wav files from online video or home editions or even cassette recordings, that would be a great way to get actual BMT sounds for the models!!PS- There's multiple Japanese HD on youtube that feature liscensed GE and WH compressors that have great sound. Never thought one could see those compressors painted in light grey and clean on the road. I have a program that I got that came with my vinyl to digital converter turntable which might work. OK, who wants an BMT whistle ring tone? |

It would make sense to agree on some sort of common coupler for the museum cars just to be able to put together a working consist with all the trimmings. Arnines had more pins, so that makes more sense. |

Now the next step will probably be to retrofit the Lo-Vs with an electric portion as well although I can’t imagine any case in which the Lo-Vs and ant BMT/IND equipment would be operating in the same train except possibly for light transfer moves. |

When Branford does that, they're coupled up but it requires a motorman in each car using radio and dead navigation to work in pairs in a choreographed move. But I figured I'd rattle Unca Randy by posting that since as a manager once upon a time, that's the kind of vision that would generate a spit take if it passed the bay window of a tower. :) |

Air brakes are compatible, but not a true MU set up.Some years ago, I had the chance to operate as the second T/O on the Lo-9 train with Lou from Brooklyn up front. Was an interesting experience operating with 5466 going towards Short Beach and 1689 going back to Avenue L. The purpose of the second train operator was to make sure the cars could get up the grade further down the line. I only applied power, didn't touch the brake! -Stef |

Oh, I have no doubt that by the end of their operating careers, the Arnines had problems galore!!But my thought was that since nowadays, were trying to preserve them, it would be best to minimize any additional wear and tear on them, as all repairs must come from donated funds. Hence, just use a diesel loco.. But maybe that's the issue- the TA not wanting even the slightest additional mileage or hours on its operating fleet- revenue or work, going to the museum trains? |
