Could be that Jamaica is more congested than usual because some trains are not in their normal slots, because Ronkonkoma trains are all delayed at Wyandanch due to the derailment. This particular Montauk train hits Jamaica at about 8:20 AM, height of the AM peak. |

I imagine the derailed freight care could have backed up several KO trains and when it was cleared, they had more trains to push through Beth and then through Hicksville. |

The 5:39 does run through the Central branch. So we can assume that the train was re-routed over the Babylon branch to reduce main line congestion or it went via the Central Branch and was delayed by congestion caused by eastbound trains tying up the main line so the LIRR couldn't use the Eastbound track for westbound peak service. |
