The one I was talking about from the '70's was an actual book, "Seeing NY - the Official MTA Travel Guide". It had descriptions on how to use the systems, line descriptions, street maps for the subways and buses (showing RR ROWs for the former), commuter rail map, and sights to see.And wouldn't you know it? It’s hard to say if that would have been the case since at the time, the MTA wanted to keep the R-44s and 46s on the full time express lines as a sort of showcase rather than to assign them to a part time line like the EE or even a local line like the GG. |

In this case, the peak direction referred to from/to Queens since it seems that for both the N and the R, Queens service is more important to the MTA than Bkln service. |

I worked as a C/R on pre Chrystie QBs and as a M/M on the post Chrystie QB service. As a T/D I dealt with AM QB service at 57/7 and when the R-9 museum train came up in QB service (usually signed up as "1/Brighton Lcl" by the way) and there was a delay in Sea Beach service, I obtained the required special permission and used it on a S/B Sea Beach Express displaying "4/Sea Beach Express” signs. |

Yes, now the huge question:Why use the Queens perspective over Brooklyn's? Is it that Brooklyn can benefit more from express service because of the increased distance to 34th and 42nd from Canal St vs. 57th? Is it that Brooklyn could more easily choose between 6th Ave and Broadway while Astoria is pretty much forced onto Broadway (or else use the 7 train)? Is it that 49th St is a more significant local stop than the other Broadway local stops? Sound off. |

Yeah, that was when the IRT, IND, and BMT designations were temporarily revived for public usage. The IRT descriptions were so involved, though, that they couldn't do the nice vertical alignment that the IND and BMT got. There are also some contradictions in the listed hours. How can there be 7-expresses leaving from Main St. until 12:45, when they start leaving from Times Square at 12:50? How can 5-trains terminate at Atlantic until rush hour starts, when 4-trains are running express to Utica Ave. from 3 PM to 4:30 PM? And (in the description of the 4) doesn't 1 AM-6 AM Mon-Fri fall within 10:30 PM-6 AM Mon-Fri? |

A Flushing express lvg Main St clears Qnsbro Plz at 104PM. A Flushing exp train Lvg T/Sq at 1253PM departs Qnsbro Plz at 105 PM. That leaves 1 min clearance at the station itself and about 2 min at the actual interlocking point where the last S/B exp must be clear so it’s definitely doable. As for the possible time conflict between 5s terminating at Atlantic till the rush hour starts and 4s going to Utica from 3P to 430PM if the time frame for the 4s is based on lvg time from Woodlawn, the there should be no problem since the term “rush hour” is relative depending on the line. |

Post-Chrystie, when it was reduced to rush-hours only, the only time I rode it was in August 1976, shortly before I moved to L. A. I was doing a "ride all the lines at least once" fantrip.Both times, the boring-ass R-27/30s were assigned :P |
