You neglected to mention the reason for this unusual transfer. The 10 line splits into 2 branches (2 separate tunnels) -- one going one-way west and the other going one-way east --- on either side of its intersection with the 9 line. Thus, each branch crosses the 9 line at a different 9-line station, the two you mentioned. For this situation to be replicated elsewhere, you would need a similar split in a line into two separate one-way tunnels or els, one for each direction. And then each branch would have to cross an intersecting line at a different transfer station. This would be a highly unlikely occurrence. |

Until about two years ago the NYC transfer between B,D,F and 6 train at Broadway-Lafayette and Bleecker only permitted transfer to or from the Downtown 6. For example, if traveling northbound from Brooklyn on the B or D, it was necessary to transfer to the 4 or 5 at Atlantic Avenue, and then pick up the 6 at Brooklyn Bridge or 14th Street. Another option would be to transfer to the M or E in Manhattan (West 4th) and pick up the 6 at 51st - 53rd Street and Lexington. |

Well, any time a subway line is split for whatever reason, so that one direction has to operate on line it does not usually use.Say Manhattan bound A and C service running through Cranberry and Brooklyn bound through Rutgers. |

In Hong Kong cross platform interchanges are done at Tiu Keng Leng and Yau Tong stations. You'd be able to make transfers against the grain at those stations, but if you'd stayed on one more stop (or gotten off a stop earlier) you'd have a cross platform transfer. Wuhan also has multi-station cross platform interchanges, and I believe the Taipei metro is designed to have them eventually. |

Are these transfer stations built on top of each other, say, similar to the Parsons-Archer station in Queens? Two levels of center island platform stations with tracks on both sides of the island platforms? Just wondering.Mike |
