Without the Unlimited Metrocard, the MTA would actually make far less money off me, since I would combine Manhattan trips and spend one REALLY long day in the city (10am to midnight) to save additional subway fares, instead of 4 or 5 separate round-trips spread out over several days. |

With at least half of all subway or bus riders using the unlimited cards - what is the reason for a change?The unlimited cards have made many trips feasible that would otherwise have been handled differently, or not made at all. Since places like Staten Island, only have 3 places on the entire island at which to purchase MetroCards from MetroCard Vending machines. Making the purchase of unlimited cards difficult would not be very useful to most riders. Mike |

You're proposal is the worst ever. Sure the MTA would make more money ONLY IF the riding habits of people don't change. The unlimited ride cards have encouraged the use of subways & buses as evidenced by records ridership not seen in decades. Removing a popular feature would encourage less use of mass transit and people would use other means of transportation like car sharing, bikes, walking, etc. If anything MTA needs to control costs, not screw riders. The riders span every class & demographic and eliminating unlimited would hurt those that can least afford it. This is not Starbucks where you raise prices and not expect any loss of customers. |

And the garbage that ridership increased due to Metrocard usage "alone" is totally false. The discounts are the thing. And the MTA should bring back a version of the day pass, which many agencies use (unless they have a totally cheap fare to begin with). |

Practically every motel room anywhere of significance these days comes with at least $10 in taxes and fees. Tourists are politically impotent everywhere as they don't vote. Next, they'll be trying to tax all foreigners living abroad.I would be upset if pay per ride MetroCards were eliminated. I have business in Manhattan several times each month, but rarely more than two days in any particular week. To have to buy a weekly unlimited would be ridiculous for me. Hopefully the OP on that idea was joking. |

You have a point, however, I doubt it would work.What I would do, however, is add a new "Weekend Pass," an unlimited ride Metro-Card valid from 8:00 PM Friday-5:00 AM Monday that would cost $12.50 for the entire weekend (I would also have special versions for holiday weekends that would have such passes extend to 5:00 AM Tuesday when Monday is a Holiday and also depending on where July 4 falls for example). I would also at the end of the year have a special "Holiday season unlimited ride" MetroCard that would be $25 and would be valid from 8:00 PM December 23 (or the preceding Friday if 12/23 is on Saturday or Sunday) until 5:00 AM January 2 (January 3 if New Year's falls on a Saturday or Sunday, January 4 if it falls on a Friday or January 5 if it falls on a Thursday). That would cover the tourists who are in NYC during the Christmas period. |
