Well, he said there would be a train in that station if he had to pull it there himself. At least there's some politician who believes his promises. |

The extension of the No. 7 subway line from Times Square to the West Side isn’t scheduled to open to passengers until summer of 2014 — with one exception. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority confirmed Monday that plans are set to run a “dignitary train” on Friday for Mayor Michael Bloomberg, so the politician who spearheaded the city financing of the new line’s extension through the site of the Hudson Yards development can get in one celebratory trip before leaving office at the end of the year. Mr. Bloomberg will ride a No. 7 train from Times Square, where the line ends now, to the end of the extension at 34th Street and 11th Avenue, at noon on Friday, MTA officials said. Construction continues on the extension, but the MTA’s Capital Construction division has been planning for months to make it possible for Mr. Bloomberg to take a ride on the line before his term as mayor ends. The MTA is a state authority, and its other capital construction projects, like the Second Avenue subway, Fulton Center and bringing the Long Island Rail Road to Grand Central Terminal, are being built with its own capital funds and healthy dollops of aid from the federal government. But on the No. 7, the city has footed the $2.4 billion bill, floating bonds backed by future expected tax revenue from real estate development in the new neighborhood taking shape above the MTA’s West Side railyards. http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2013/12/16/new-part-of-the-7-subway-makes-its-first-trip-friday-for-the-mayor/ |

That's the biggest shame of all. It was "shovel ready" when the economy was supposed to be stimulated and they were looking for such projects, and they didn't even build a shell during construction for future development into a station. I suspect we'll never see it. And that neighborhood already has high-rise residential buildings. |

If there willing to sent the state of the art R-188s on the initial run, Im sure that somebody guarantees that there will not be any clearance issues. If that car scrapes anything, than scrape the name of the individual that ok'd the trip in the first place off the payroll.Besides was'nt the IRT locked into dimentions (Height, width, length) from the Low V days till today?? How "innacurate" (different) would Lo V clearence measurements vs R-188 be?? To me, this just seems to be a Bloomy publicity stunt. Would just love to see the press corps board the train with big gulp sodas! |

How "innacurate" (different) would Lo V clearence measurements vs R-188 be??For some reason I thought they were 48 feet. That said, didn't R62s have the guard light clearance issue in the Steinway tube (and some modification was necessary to accommodate the current setup)? |

Earlier R types had clearance lights too, so they were really stumped that R62's had clearance problems. Maybe the R62's are harder sprung. There was also that nasty derailment on the curve between Hunterspoint and Vernon-Jackson when they first hit the #7. R36's didn't do that. |

When the R-62s and 62As were first delivered, they, like the R-44s, 46s and 68s had individual external guard lights for each door panel rather than just 1 per side as previous equipment had. It may have been those additional guard lights that presented the clearance problems. Subsequently, when the door control system was upgraded to the Vapor/Westcode system, the extra guard lights were removed. |
