Over the scanner, there are at least 4 10-37 code 1s (non-fire fatalities). At least 40 are injured...one of the dead was found crushed underneath one of the cars.

This link says the speed limit drops from 75 to 30 right at (presumably before) the curve.

The distance the front car went off the tracks suggests a speed higher than 30. This is obviously speculation.

Probably the Fire Department doesn't want moving trains so close to the rescue effort. There are boats involved in the rescue as well, so maybe some emergency workers are crossing the Amtrak tracks.

Terrible news. Commissioner Cassano (FDNY) - reported that three people were thrown from the train and killed. There were about a hundred people aboard. Likely could have been worse; the cars seem to have held up very well. Track is all tore up; will take a while to get it fixed.

Condolences to those lost and prayers for those injured.
