Add Times Square to that list. It seems that new Rapid-Fire Charlie does all of the transfer announcements with the exception of 61 St and 74 St.

A lot of her recordings in general have been removed. From what I've seen and heard so far, most of the original destination recordings were redone by Kathleen. The "the next [and last] stop", "this is" parts of the station announcements come from Catherine's (G) and (V) recordings and most of the transfers are now done by Charlie. So far, the only transfer I've heard from Annie Bergen is to the <7>.

Yeah… From Westchester Yard via the 6 to 86th Street, then via the 4 to Concourse Yard. From there via the D to 135th Street, or as far south as 34th Street, then via the A to 207th Street Yard. Then via truck to Yonkers.

From Yonkers via truck to 207th Street Yard, then via the A and D to Coney Island.

Some sets are transferred to East 180th Street Yard for testing on the Dyre Line, others stay at Coney for Sea Beach testing.

Coney to E180: via D to Concourse, 4 to 86th or 138/Concourse, 5 to E 180 Yard.

From Coney to Corona: via N to Queensboro Plaza, then via 7 to Corona.

Having Express, local,EXP,LCL on the side NTT signs may be helpful but keep in mind the 7 runs thru the most diverse population of NYC and there are many that can't read English. The easy to distinguish green circle and red diamond was useful and won't be easy to replace. Heck at night driving across the Queensboro bridge I can tell if a 7 is express or local.

I doubt that's the reason and it's politically incorrect to call them orientals. Asian is the appropriate term. In the case of CTA colors make more sense because there is not too much overlap of lines like here in NYC and easier to distinguish on a map than using letters. Same goes for WMATA.

Oh, so at least something was kept. I'm unsure why they suddenly decided to change the destination announcements. The R-188 converted set with an older announcement version had kept Annie's destinations. Maybe when they created the new announcement program with the Javits extension, they had Kathleen rerecord all of them.

Which is odd, because in the older R-188 announcement program, I could swear that Annie created a new recording for trains terminating at Mets - Willets Point.

just cause it's on the internet doesn't make it true.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=oriental

Asians make up 5% of Chicago population. As influential as residents of the upscale area of Ravenswood may be, it's silly to assume Asians or any other race can't read Arabic lettering though immigrants may have trouble reading words on the R188 which is what this thread is about. I doubt anyone reads the destinations on R62a now and just looks for a diamond or circle during rush periods.

They're probably from the original recordings from way back when, just without as much space between the letters/numbers as before. At least that's how it sounds to my ears. It makes the transfer announcements sound less robotic in my opinion and is a much better alternative than what Transit did for the addition of the M34 Select.

Courtesy: MrRailFanBVE

I will say this regarding the announcements on the 7-line: I haven't heard such a hodgepodge of different voices since the original 5-line recordings. I thought those were bad, but this takes the cake. If they were able to get both Kathleen and Catherine to record new destinations and transfers respectively, surely they could've gotten one of them to re-record the station announcements. Either that or they could've simply left the original recordings alone. Not that it really matters in the grand scheme of things, but it really sounds unprofessional.

Incidentally, if you're ever in a car with a 4 train strip map saying the train will be making every other stop from Pennsylvania Avenue to Yankee Stadium, then no other stops until Woodlawn, that's when you'll know you're actually on a 7 local train. If it says it stops at Pennsylvania, Rockaway, and Franklin Avenues, then Brooklyn Bridge and 51st Street, then every other stop to Yankee Stadium, then 183rd Street, with no other stops beyond that, there's your 7 express.

Arabic lettering? I can't read that either. The letters we use are generally called Latin letters. Arabic is written with what look like strange curlicues to me. Now the numbers we use are sometimes called "Arabic numerals", although that isn't too accurate either, as Arabic actually uses somewhat different forms for numbers, which most Westerners would not recognize. As for the substitution of "Asian" for "Oriental", it is an unfortunate case of "political correctness" which is hard to avoid. Asia is a big place, and "Asian" technically includes everyone from Arabs and Turks to Japanese and native Siberians. What used to be called "Orientals" - Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, and people of generally similar appearance - prefer to be called "Asians", but that excludes a lot of others from Asia whose appearance is quite different, the people of India being prominent among them. It is a case where we have lost a term that had a clear meaning and must now use vaguer terminology to avoid offense, and that is quite unfortunate.

But FIND allows for other important messages to be programed doesn't it?
ALso wouldn't it be helpful to be able to program service changes such as no 7 trains to Manhattan this weekend?

I was wondering why they do not have pitted stainless steel window masks and end walls similar to the R-160's The original R-160A 7 R-160B did not have these upgrades but every car since did. They are scratch & gouge resistent but unfortunately, acid is a problem. I saw a R-160 on the M that appeared to have the front stainless steel surface buffed out no doubt due to acid vandalism.
