All right Dutch, as a 30 + year NYCT worker, I know the deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I full know that MTA (in the context you are refering to them) never get their hands dirty.

It's the agencies that do the actual work. I was just answering the question as it was presented. I am well aware who does it.......he may have been asking "who owns the tracks because there was a freight train running on them".

Can you explain the reference about "really a cooling kink"? I can understand how steel expanding, but having nowhere to move into, can cause a rail to bend. But if it survives the maximum temperature, I would think that when it cools, it could shrink back to its normal position unimpeded. What am I missing?

The third rail shoes on the Gennies cannot run on the LIRR third rail, and also Amtrak would require an engine be on the leading end at all times. Southbound, MNR uses Cab Cars with engines on the north end shoving, which Amtrak would not allow.

Hudson Line tickets will be honored on the Harlem Line

We have always honored Harlem Line tickets and passes on the Hudson Line as they are both identical in fare zones at all times, emergency situation or not. The only exception Harlem Line goes up to Zone 10 (Wassaic) where as the Hudson ends at Zone 9 (Poughkeepsie). Anyone with any Harlem ticket/pass can ride on the Hudson Line to its equivalent at no extra charge. With the exception of a Zone 1 GCT to Zone 9 Harlem or Zone 10 Harlem ticket, which would cover rides without charge at all times on the full length Hudson Line, the other zones, 2 - 8, would always require necessary ride extension charges to go beyond their paid for zones of travel.

From what I observed earlier today in the trips I did between Poughkeepsie and Yonkers (I got deadheaded up to cover a Poughkeepsie-based Conductor job), most people simply turned around and went home and enjoyed a nice summertime 3-day weekend. A few people I know who live up north diverted to the Harlem Line for rides down to GCT.

It's not like it'd be that difficult to install the retractable third rail shoes from Amtrak's P32AC-DMs onto a few MNRR locomotives to create a pool of locomotives dedicated to Penn Station service.

The Third rail shoe Amtrak uses also require a lot of control wiring and airlines, MNCR Genesis do not have this, so yes it is difficult.
as for a NYP pool forget it we can barely keep up with what we need day to day.
