What do these linear induction trains really accomplish that a 2 or 3 car train of R142's or R143's could not ?

TTC is replacing their Scarborough things with LRV's.

And have maybe 2 non-airport stops at Ditmars/Steinway and Hazen/21st Ave, then on to LGA.

La Guardia is more of a commuter and light luggage airport than JFK. People would be more apt to use the subway for a direct run into Manhattan if they do not have a lot of luggage to carry.

I think the 111 St. route is much more feasible because of the lack of residential NIMBYs, but the taxicab lobby would be hard at work.

My mistake about Seattle, but the technology existed in the 1950s and was used for Tokyo in 1964, only two years after Seattle's opened.

Tokyo Monorail even added passing loops later for express service.

Also in Japan, the Shonan Monorail (1970) has always been a single track operation with passing loops at most intermediate stations and runs 8 tph each direction most of the day.

NIMBY'S would have fought anyway, but they didn't even get a bone. Imagine the Airtrain going down Guy R. Brewer Blvd not making a single stop.

I would build a new Astoria Blvd station as close as possible to the old one so it would seem like only losing on stop. But the community would gain with regularly spaced stations going to LGA and Flushing Main St. Ditmars is only a minor destination station. It's just as busy as Astoria Blvd. Ridership on the Astoria neighborhood portion of the line would go up with an extension.

Climb and descend higher grades more easily than conventional traction.
Smaller underbody equipment=smaller tunnels underground while keeping capacity.
Less moving mechanical parts=less maintenance.

are usually mentioned, but all the lines in Japan that use the technology are underground lines so I don't know why JFK Airtrain adopted it.

The Queens blvd stops "north" of Roosevelt NEED 2 locals that go to Manhattan... you would be undoing the purpose of the 63st tunnel by taking the M away. If they could have just "added more Rs" they would have done so...

I thought extending the (M) to LGA would have it go through Metropolitan, which is why in my version, I proposed having the (J) and (M) swap Queens terminals and have the (J) be the line to LGA so it isn't as roundabout. Plus, it would serve lower Manhattan, which is much more residential now than years ago.
