It looks like a specialty trailer used by Silk Road Transport (Arkport, NY), which runs these kind of jobs for just about all the transit operators in North America. The SIR moves were a different trailer painted blue and required that the bodies be loaded on a set of trucks. This thing appears to be adjustable in length and has recepticles for the kingpins to hold onto. No trucks beneath.The address for Rosario's Salon is 4977 Broadway just north of 207 Street station. I'll throw a question back at you: Is the entire SBK Track from the West End Line to Costco out of service? That could be a possibility. I know that the flat car and the old ramp used for putting GOH Cars on the rails no longer exists. Next question: is the new alignment from what was the old SBK Yard to 1st Avenue in service? It would make no sense to drop cars by Costco if there's no track connection in any direction.Silk Road MIGHT be taking the 44's directly into Bush Terminal. Why not have Silk Road go all the way to the scrapper instead? Would that be a money saver? It costs money to ship by BOTH truck and rail. -Stef |

Those R-44s that were scrapped off the property were taken from Pitkin Yard. Prior to being moved up town, all freon was removed. After sitting idle for 2 years, the HVAC was still working. |

When the PA1-4 cars went out, they went with all the typical EPA No-Nos as Frontier is a compliant scrapper. In the late 80s or at least before overhaul, I remember some of the R44s getting abatement for their overaul projects at 207 main shops. Did the one pictured (5417) make it to Costco? Maybe somebody else is disposing of the cars, or even Kawasaki or other builders are responsible for scrapping in the contracts. For every PA5 KAW delivered, they were required to remove one car off the property. |

And now for a side note:FYI, OL912 is still testing on the IRT, it came out last night. It was coupled once again with N2, a rider car, and a flat car as an addition. The new loco is now facing north rather than south from previously. I wonder when the loco will be permitted to run on its own? I think the true test will come when another loco arrives in the system, then Transit could see how a new pair of R156's perform. Wonder if another diesel is headed in? -Stef |

The side signs need a 37 VDC power supply and several other components to operate. I doubt that the average railfan would have the technical know-how. Besides, those parts are compatible with R-46 side signs so I'm sure that they are being stock piled at Pitkin and Jamaica Shops.The End Signs are mechanically compatible but the wiring for the light has to be changed to get a (44) sign to work on a (46). Those might pop up at foamer shows but again, you need 37 VDC for them to operate. |

The inverter ballast for the light may be and amp or two and the motor maybe another 2 amps at full load. But keep in mind that the sign will function down to about 26 volts so even if the motor loads down the power supply the light should remail lit for the brief time that the motor is turning. |
