I think it was only the one-day "Funpass" that was good until 2 AM the next day, with the other (all the current) passes being good only until midnight, at least according to MTA public statements. |

Anybody know of any unofficial grace periods for the midnight expiration on the unlimiteds though? I remember I would sometimes be able to use my Student Card a few minutes past the 8:30p.m. deadline - but not too many minutes - I think 8:36 was the best I got. |

Here is something else that someone pointed out to me. If you refill it on March 9th, after it expires, it will say that the last day of use is April 8th. But if you don't use it on March 10th or 11th because it falls on a weekend, when you use it for the first time after the refill on March 12th, the expiration date will move April 8th to April 11th. That is also confusing. Also, is it correct that you can refill it only after it expires and not several days before? |

According to the Refill brochure, you can refill it once it has been activated (used for the first time), so you can refill it in advance. The refill begins to be used after the original expiration. We discussed the roving expiration dates here before, when I posted that exact situation. My card had expired on Wednesday, I refilled it (but didn't use it) on Thursday, and the reader immediately showed a new expiration date 30 days from that Thursday, even though I hadn't used it. I checked the reader each day, Friday through Monday, and the expiration date kept changing to 30 days beyond the day I was testing it. When I finally used the refill for the first time on Tuesday, the display showed the real expiration date, 3/7, but the MVM shows 3/8. |

On two occasions I was denied passage with a funpass after midnight. I think they cut back the hours on the card a few years before its discontinuance, and didn't bother to change any of the literature. |

I would bring it back as a weekend pass, valid from 7:00 PM Friday-4:00 AM Monday for $8.50 (extended to 4:00 AM Tuesday when Monday is a holiday and on Thanksgiving weekend, a special version for $12.50 valid from 7:00 PM Wednesday-4:00 AM the following Monday). It would be perfect for tourists in particular who are more likely to use the system on weekends and help leave a positive influence on them. |

I've noticed this for as long s athere have been unlomited cardsa and MVMs. Most readers of English should be able to understand the messages mean the same thing. But in deference to the many good NYers who may not be fluent in English and/or subway-ese, I agree that the messages shoukld eb consistent. I also thin that it's the LAST day of usage that should be displayed. |

To avoid any confusion to myself, I actually have 2 7-day cards. I don't refill a card 'till it's empty. Then, I refl it Thursday or Friday PM, while still using the other card...Helps me out.. and never had a problem yet. |

The solution to stop swipers would have been to have a longer lock out period for the same station. Two hours and eighteen minutes would have made it much harder on the swipers and had little effect on legitimate passengers. |

Two hours and eighteen minutes would have made it much harder on the swipers and had little effect on legitimate passengers. While not technically a legitimate passenger use, I would often walk through stations to escape bad weather, then eventually ride the train (for example, going to bank / store / eatery before actually going anywhere). I'm sure I'm not the only one who uses this "advantage" when possible... A 24 or 30 minute lockout should be enough to at least make it potentially costly for swipers. |

That's why the extended lockout should be only at the same station. If a swiper has to keep moving to another station it would cut the profits.I don't think I've ever entered the same station twice within the span of a few hours. |
