The trains are held there as they are the main gap stations to maintain the even spacing between trains as the trains can run ahead of schedule on the 1. Also during the rush hour the 1 runs a 5 min headway until 4-6pm where they run a 3 min headway, so during that time the 2 and 3 run a combined 2.5 min headway so it may seem like more trains when its really not. |

There is a 2 1/2 minute hold time built into the running time on the 1. Don't ask me why, because if I find out my head will probably explode (T/A reasoning is known to do that to people). |

I don't recall these wait times occurring when I'd ride the 1 as a kid and a teenager back in the '90's-early '00's, must be recent......or maybe my memory's bad.I also hate how expresses slow down at the curves after Franklin St. and approaching/leaving Park Place. They should just pass through them at their regular express speed. :) |

At 96th, there's almost always 3-4 Uptown expresses for every localI thought the 1 runs more frequently. What you said happens with the Downtown Lex at Union Sq. after around 6pm. |
