If you search SubTalk here:http://talk.nycsubway.org/cgi-bin/subtalk.cgi?reconfigure using dates from 2000 to 2002, you will see many threads of varying helpfulness about the 63rd St connector. Use search phrases such as: 63rd St, Queens Blvd, V line, etc. I remember we talked about Queens Blvd seemingly to no end back then. And in fact my first (fairly immature in my opinion) ever post to SubTalk was related to the 63rd St connector. I would focus on threads that have the most responses since they would probably get most in depth on the discussion. |

I really don't know why after ten years people are still beating a dead horse about this whole (F) via 63rd.In my honest opinion, I'd only send the (F) back to 53rd Street during weekdays because I don't like the fact that a 480' train is running through 53rd Street. But that's it. I'm truly indifferent with the current subway pattern. |

It's only Forest Glen who's beating the dead horse...Anyway those who actually have clear memories of the way it was during rush hour and called Queens Blvd their home would agree that this was an improvement. The 63st tunnel was a lemon, but sending the F via it was the only way to make lemonade out of it (sending a local there would not have had the necessary result of reducing the amount of track the high frequency E and F share). As far as the 480' train... I would agree if it was overcrowded during that time, but even the end cars still have some breathing room. |

The 63st tunnel was a lemon,I don't think so. Unlike Brooklyn, where there is still capacity in existing tunnels, Queens tunnels were maxed out. 60th, 53rd and Steinway were maxed out. 63rd added a much needed set of tracks. Unfortunately, there wasn't an added Trunk line to go with it. |

I can try to rationalize the purpose of the subway-to get from point A to point B and say that by deliberately having the F avoid high ridership stations, it is hurting more people than it helps, but people are dead set on the F running through a useless tunnel and I've fought this fight for over 10 years. I have better things to do on a Friday night. |

But yet every time a 63rd Street/53rd Street conversation erupts you try to argue about sending the (F) back to 53rd Street and you always get the same results.... |

Rockefeller University complained that vibration from the construction (and later from passing trains) might interfere with the research experiments that take place there where even the tiniest vibration can ruin a delicate biochemical reaction. |

Also don't forget that the 63rd St Connector was built with features that have not yet been realized (but hopefully will about thirty years later!):- connection to the Second Ave subway - LIRR access to GCT |

By lemon I mean it didn't deliver what it was supposed to. No Queens super express, no 2nd ave connection, and when it was a stub to 21st you'd often have empty cars on the 6 car R32 shuttle that was there during the late 90s. Until the connector to the Queens Blvd line, it was almost useless. |

A F-Q transfer would make the 63rd Connector less useless, but F riders would still be missing a transfer to the G. |

Yes, but if the F went via 53rd and the M/V/whatever was 63rd, Queens Blvd local riders would be missing a transfer to the G. Considering they used to have the actual G, going from one seat to three seats was pretty much a non starter. |

How many people at 75th Avenue, Van Wyck Blvd and the Hillside stops really need the G so desperately? |
