Yes, that why I was asking cause I knew it was not for the June pick. But, given what you are saying, I am not really seeing it happen. It would be nice to see, but not sure if it is practical. I guess we will see the next pick after June.

The MTA has been trying to get rid of the Nassau/Southern Brooklyn Service for years, and they finally do, and now all of a sudden people think they want to bring it back, and in a time of budget problems (and car shortage)? The Broad St/Montague connection has become the "new" Railfan "Chryrstie" Connection.....

Nobody has answered a question I posed a few months ago: where are they supposed to get the cars from to run the J (or Z) to Bay Pky, even if it's very limited service. NYCT can barely make full servcie as it is. The summer makes car availability even tighter.

Be careful of the answers you might get!! The railfan dreamers will go on and on about putting the R-32s in service for that, especially the ones laid up in Fresh Pond!! :-D

I don't see this happening because NYCT is crying poverty financially.

This Bay Pky. thing is just another railfan fantasy. Is the D that overcrowded south of 36th/4th? If it is, I mentioned that in my opposition to the M reroute in the first place.

You are not having it both ways: the M got rerouted at the expense of south Brooklyn.

I am not interested in having another discourse of the M being more useful via Sixth Ave. The point is in today's climate if one improvement comes, there is a loss somewhere else, which is exactly what has happened.

In their justification, the rail fans/foamers start mentioning alleviating the shortage with cars not even ordered yet!

Obviously the cars in FP Yd, and the 10 allegedly in CIYD, are poor performers, not fit for service.

I know for a fact that I see certain R32's on the C for a very limited time, because they mess up and spend more time in the yard than on the road because they get knocked out for problem after problem after problem. 3792/93, 3912/13............

These cars have no business being everyday cars. There is a foam fest here only because of the RFW. The only thing that's saved them is their superior car bodies and the necessity of retiring the R44's. If we still had the old M and V we'd have a severe car shortage right now.

And I'm tired of hearing how superior the R32's are to the R46's due to MBDF. Those figures do not tell the story. Those who are not associated with the C line don't know that 90% of the time there are gap trains available at Euclid and 168 for when a train is ordered shopped upon arrival, another train is available. So a swap of trains is made for the next trip, without a terminal abandonment. Car equipment does not take a hit on MBDF. On the other hand, except at Dyckman St. and Lefferts during the non-rush, there is no place to have a gap train for the A, so a shop upon arrival becomes an abandonment for the next trip, hence a hit to the MBDF.

I remember the crappy R-38s!! Every time I worked the C, we had one problem or another with them, especially loads of door problems. The R-32s did far better than they did.

As for a gap train, when word was coming of a train being taken out for mechanical problems, can't they just get a trainset out of Rockaway Park Yard to replace a B/O train coming in off the road??? It is as simple as sending a switching T/O from Far Rockaway to Rock Park to get it. Last I recall, especially in the afternoon, they still had a switching T/O at Far Rock.

If it happens, and the R32 MDBF go down and the R46 one goes up, your theory is proven.

Once again, whineberg is dealing with his perceptions and not facts. The Staten Island R-44s are different structurally. They have a different propulsion system, different braking system and a different door system. They were built closer to R-46 standards than to R-44 standards. But why confuse whineberg with facts.

There will be no R32/R46 swap. Another foaming SubChat fantasy/April Fools joke. That would be a dispatchers' nightmare. If the trains don't come up from Brooklyn in sequence and it's time for a Far Rock train @207 and you only have an R32 what happens?

What happens if the car inspector is doing an in station repair at 207 and a train swap is needed?

What happens at the end of the night at 207 when Lefferts needs 2 R46 trains to cut for midnight OPTO service (1 cut and 1 gap)?

The SI R-44s when delivered were electrically and mechanically identical to the mainline R-44s and some mainline 44s were subsequently transferred to SIRT and appropriately modified. The electrical and mechanical differences only came about when the cars were GOHed. Prior to GOH the mainline R-44s received Westcode's version of RT-2 (SMEE) brakes and Vapor door control systems. These features were retained after GOH. The SI R-44s, on the other hand were GOHed under a separate contract although they were done at CIYd and although I'm not sure what door modifications were made, I do know that they received WABCO RT-2 brakes with Cineston controllers. For some reason, although one train of mainline R-44s and one train of R-46s was WABCO equipped, the MTA opted to go with Westcode brakes on the R-44s and NYAB Newtran brakes on the GOHed R-46s.
