Ruby Street was renamed 75th Street between the Conduit and Liberty Avenue some years ago by some local Queens officials. The west side of Ruby Street/75th street between the Conduit and Liberty Avenue although officially in Brooklyn does have Queens street addresses and mail is delivered by the Ozone Park, Jamaica 11417 post office. Also 1242 Liberty Avenue between 75th Street and Drew Street also in Brooklyn but mail is also delivered by the Ozone Park 11417 post office.

In Life After People on the Hitlery Channel, they mentioned how eventually without maintenance subway tunnels would collapse, creating rivers. It is thus unlikely that any abandoned station could be sealed off without maintenance access unless it were backfilled at some point.

Exactly. That's why I believe that even if this was there, it has to be filled up, or it wasn't there to begin with. Again, this would be a typical IND station, and likely like the other local stations on the line like Liberty, etc. That means it's TWO levels, the mezzanine level, and the platform/track level. I find it hard to believe that they just sealed up a two level tunnel never to be inspected.

Were these stations built using the cut and cover method? If so, and if the shell of 76th had been built...why is it not possible that once the decision to abandon the thought of continuing down Pitkin...to simply cut, fill in, and cover? That would be the cheapest option.

Exactly and previously in this thread I posted that as the only likely way that any sort of subway structure was built at 76th. In that case though, it would have been during construction, before the street was restored, and unlikely to have been at any later time, else the street would have to have been ripped up and it would have been a major, documented project.

The reason for the upgrade to blvd is that avenues are supposed to run east-west under the new scheme. Grand St became Grand Avenue, but I guess downgrading to street was not considered acceptable. This does not explain Ditmars Blvd which runs east-west.

Exactly. The underground has to be well documented in order to prevent accidents while digging. There are cases of unknown things turning up, but these tend to either be small, or ancient (i.e. from the 18th century or something). A subway constructed no earlier than the 1930s would not be lost in this way.

The only C of O I found online on the Buildings Information Search page of the Department of Buildings is from October 1, 1925, allowing occupancy of the new building. It has no description of the building other than its use, "Public School # 214." It is possible that there are more documents in the building's file at DOB, DOE, or the municipal archives. It may also be helpful to see if there were ever any easements recorded on the property, or any of the lots along the route, but the City's online ACRIS system only goes back to 1966, necessitating a trip to the City Register offices in Brooklyn and Queens.

Sorry ... can't help myself ... lemme stop laughing for a second and try to regain my composure. Hahahaha.

OK ... you're citing the "Nevermind channel," who aired a hypothetical made up scenario and extrapolating what would happen if dogs ran out of furniture to eat and took over the world as some sort of absolute reference material and the basis of your argument? You're kidding, right? That's like a doctoral thesis based on wikipedia research.

Would it surprise you to know that the water is already in there and that any such deterioration would be the result of flow rate erosion rather than the mere presence of water? And that the wall and the fill behind it have BEEN wet for a very long time now? And yet ... those buildings ... they're still standing. And the street can still hold a bus. And just HOW many years were they talking about on that stupid show (I saw it too) before 76th Street collapsed and the dogs took over?

Sorry guy ... that was a weak one and doesn't prove nor disprove. Such a basis for "fact" is something only FOX News would accept ...

More important than its height is its flow rate. It is the erosion from moving water in a water table that determines the speed of any deterioration. And many water tables that are not being tapped might not flow at all ... water table is a spurious argument.
