This is a pretty amazing shot also - a pre-1949 shot of R units on what was then strictly BMT trackage. Okay, it was all one big 'happy' family then (Pirrmann estiguesses this shot as 1948), but still, a pre war R unit at QBP - did they EVER run in 'normal' service there post-1949?? Seems the Ds pretty much ran there until their dying day - especially after getting switched to the West End. And it also seems that post - 1949, maybe 27s and 30s ran there, but you never see pics of prewar Rs on the Astoria...or even anywhere on Broadway period.

Since it took a lot of doing to get IND equipment to the BMT ( and reverse), in those days (car float??), could they possibly been seeing if the Rs could handle the ramp up from the 60th st tunnel??

This shot is not as obviously rare as the shots of the Bluebirds and Budds, but its right up there....to see an R unit, in apparently regular service, at QBP...with proper signage in the front and apparently the other end too...its almost like some sort of odd parallel universe...
