Re: [OLDE PHOTO] D-Types At Queensboro Plaza

I realize that this thread is almost 12 years old, but I had to respond. I lived 1 block north of Queensboro Plaza from 1956 to 1971, and I had a clear view of the station and all the trains. My hobby was watching and cataloging all the different car types that passed through the station. (D-types, Standards, R12s, R15s, and then WF R33s and R36s beginning late in 1963).

I definitely did see IND R types running to this station and out to Astoria. However, it was not a regular occurrence.

I believe that the connection from the 60th St tunnel to the IND Jamaica line (later used by EE trains) used to flood after heavy rains. In those cases, the R types would be re-routed out to Astoria until conditions in the tunnel improved.

I don't have any proof of this outside of my own observance.
