"And it also seems that post - 1949, maybe 27s and 30s ran there, but you never see pics of prewar Rs on the Astoria...or even anywhere on Broadway period."Actually, prewar R-types did run on the Manhattan Broadway BMT as the EE from Christie through about 1972. At that point, R1/9s were removed from the EE in favor of 16s, 38s, Mod 40/42s, and the occasional 32. Before the 1954 Culver merge and IND access to Coney Yard, there doesn't seem to be any conceivable way to move IND equipment to BMT trackage and vice verse. Concourse Yard could not have been used because of the narrower IRT gauge. |
