Actually, prewar R-types did run on the Manhattan Broadway BMT as the EE from Christie through about 1972. At that point, R1/9s were removed from the EE in favor of 16s, 38s, Mod 40/42s, and the occasional 32.

Before the 1954 Culver merge and IND access to Coney Yard, there doesn't seem to be any conceivable way to move IND equipment to BMT trackage and vice verse. Concourse Yard could not have been used because of the narrower IRT gauge.
