It shouldn't have ever been done but glad they will get no more free rides. I was against the elimination of the fare to begin with. Actually they can do it now by bringing back on board fare collection but with a c/r carrying a handheld m/c swiper thingy. Put one or 2 MVMs at each stop encourage merchants to sell m/cs, etc but yes smartcard would be better
