It demonstrates the risibility of people objecting to words in themselves. It's not the words that matter. There's no difference between saying, "Lynch the niggers!" and, "Lynch the African-Americans": both express the same unacceptable concept. Objecting to words just hides the problem rather than addressing it -- people's opinion's don't change just because you declare a word taboo, and you just end up declaring word after word to be taboo. All you achieve by doing so is weakening the English language's fitness to express totally innocent concepts, such as "Yellow Line". |
