Yes, the trucker is responsible for damage to the locomotives. That will not be such a big expense and is easily covered by insurance. The company US Foods (?) (We get some of our food from them too) will eat the loss of the truck and trailer, but they have lots of those. The driver faces a few tickets, well he earned them, but the loss of a job? He would not loose his job out here for something like that, at least not if he has some seniority with the company or a good work record with them. OK it was a dramatic accident, but not all that much real damage. Who knows, maybe he was a relief driver on that route and was unaware of the problems at that crossing. Maybe the regular route driver had an additional drop at some other place and thought this road would work for him. Maybe lots of things. But you don't fire workers for having an accident like that. It happened out here with a truck from TMI, and the company stood by their employee, made good the damages and life went on. That is the way it is supposed to be. Good employees, after all are hard to come by, especially with such full employment as we have up here. Up here, they definitely would not let a guy go for that accident. But what the heck, I'll ask the US Foods driver up here what he heard about it. ROAR |
