Actually, it's been your experience every day since you were born. You're just not paying attention.

Every time a suburban soccer mom gets on the expressway with her SUV in Nassau County, a poor schlub who is subway dependent subsidizes her use of the road.

Every time I take an itemizable tax deduction, some poor schlub who can't use any of those deductions pays extra tax for me.

When I pay a flat sales tax to fund road-building, as occurs in the midwest (example: Jackson County, MO - Kansas City area), the poor are hit harder than the rich.

When taxes are cut across the board, as opposed to graduated based on income, the rich can put a much higher proportion away in savings. The poor cannot, and hence end up doing more spending proprtionally and paying more tax.
