The deal is that the way they build buildings has changed, and you would not build that kind of a building today. First of all, people *want* more window view that a double hung sash can provide. Next, we no longer build with masonry all the way up. Yes the RCA building, the Empire State building, and the Chrysler building were all built that way, but now everything is built around a central core, with the prime wall space sold to tenants. Nowadays a building is built with its load on the core, and not on the outer walls.One might remodel that building, but it would not become a 60 story tower. For that, you have to remove it and start over again. ROAR |
