Another great post! For the record, the verazano Bridge was a necessary evil. To have all of Long Island's trafic have to go north, just to go back south again would have choked it, or worse....through Manhattan! The connection to Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau And Suffolk to Staten Island was a godsent, and completely necessary.
