It would have been a good addition to the road network. All that traffic now uses the local streets in Manhattan, an already congested Manhattan, both Canal St and 34th are a nightmare. Yes, it would have temporariy scarred the city when it was being done, and a lot of buildings would have been lost, but a lot of them were lost later anyway. And within a few years, if they did it perhaps in a cut, they could have built over the cut. |
