Just posted elsewhere:
Seeing now all of the 2 and 5 traffic out of Livonia yard, and how now they are even sending more 5's to Utica for lack of capacity at Flatbush; I was wondering if it might be a good idea to change Linden to an RTO yard, electrify it and it's leads, of course, then then use it for the additional Brooklyn storage.
In fact, since they once proposed building a layup and relay stub to Flatbush, which would curve into the adjacent LIRR ROW, why not extend the track from there, next to the freight track to Linden, so that 2's and 5's would now have their own Brooklyn yard. I guess you then might as well add stations along the way, like at Utica, and that area would not get direct service without having to use the far off ideas of a Utica subway line.
In fact, I wonder why they have never thought of that, at least after the layup track proposal (they always think of extending the line south, but Sheepshead Bay or Marine Park might not need it as much as the area East of Flatbush).

This was something that could be cheap, as they already have all the ROW; just a matter of building the electrified tracks next to the existing one (there should be enough space), and digging the curve onto the alignment. But that will now be the main roadblock, as before this space was a parking lot, which they could aquire with no disruption to anyone, but they allowed someone to snatch the land and buld a new building on it. It would be nice if a structural provision in the basement of the building was ordered to me made for such a plan, as was done on newer 2nd Av. buildings.
