True, but it is part of PATH and not NYCTA. Also, the system was shut down totally because of structural defects in the concrete supporting columns. The closest NYCTA came to that was reinforcing the 'pre war' pebble concrete of the #7 line...same stuff that many bridges and overpasses in New Jersey had to replace. What you can do with monorails is sink steel i-beams with concrete support columns without regard to surface topography at far less expense. The Erie Lackawanna cut is an example of pre-tech that was labor intensive.
Someone mentioned the inablility of integrating monorail into transit
but I have to point out that 'Bombardier train to the plane' as well as Jersey City light rail don't integrate either. Sadly, monorails remain the subject of airports and amusement parks.
