In the 40's and 50's, people DIDN'T want "old fashioned" subways. They wanted roads for their cars. They didn't want the "old fashioned" cities. They wanted the suburbs. Robert Moses didn't destroy the Bronx. The Bronx was on nfire before the Cross Bronx went through. And like I said, neighborhoods like Bushwick fell all on their own without a 6 lane highway cutting through. The Bronx would have fell regardless of the Cross Bronx or not. |
