In a broad sense there are just 2 types of IRT cars. The R62 and R62A is one and the R142 and it's contract deviations are the other. The R62 has been relegated to the #3 for awhile and I have not read or heard of any deviations of such. It is indeed news if a trainset of them winds up any other line. It is indeed news if an old tech trainset (1,3,7) winds up on an new tech line (2,4 5,6) and it is indeed news if a new tech train winds up on an old tech line. Other than that, I can't get too excited when an R62A trainset winds up on another R62A assigned line or if an R142 type car winds up on a line where that car is not assigned to. That is my only point because of the 2 basic car classes and certain lines being new tech lines and others being old tech lines. As for the B division, because of the wide variety of contract cars there, certainly it is indeed noteworthy if a trainset assigned to a given barn is running on a line served by a different barn. Maybe I should admit my bias to the B division. I've worked there almost 27 years, my initial railfan experiences were there and since the cars are bigger, they are not always SRO like the IRT cars seemingly are.
