This could have been one reason why the use of the incline was eventually discontinued.The PRR purchased the LIRR in 1900. The LIRR was independent before then. The LIRR lacked a direct entry into Manhattan. The BRT link at Chestnut over the WB and the link at Flatbush Ave over the BB provided direct Manhattan service. After the LIRR was purchased by the PRR, the East River tunnels provided that direct link. Any joint BRT operation would be viewed as supporting competition by the PRR. |
