There was an automatic mechanism called the Boyd Adaptor that allowed the third rail shoes of trains traversing the incline to be adjusted as the BRT and LIRR used different third rail positioning clearances. Cars had to be properly equipped to use this route. This could have been one reason why the use of the incline was eventually discontinued. |
