In 1971, some IND rolling stock was set aside as museum cars and immaculately restored.
Three cars headed by #1440 were in revenue service on the Culver Shuttle seen here at Ft. Hamilton Pkwy. (September 4, 1971)

Stored at Coney Island yard in 1965, R-1 #193 was involved in a catastrophic collision.. If you have any details about this, please respond.

R-4 #491 was retired and became a school car (#SC491) and sat at Jamaica yard for many years.
#491 was brought out of retirement and restored and is currently now a member in good standing with the museum fleet. (April 16, 1972)

LIRR Far Rockaway station view towards the future IND Far Rockawy station.
At this time all service ended at Wavecrest (Beach 25th St.). The IND Far Rockaway station would open two years later in 1958. (June 30, 1956)

#1575 was always an oddball and a favorite of rail fans for years. (February 24, 1968)

R-4s #484 and #766 were tested for upgrades that included indirect "bullseye" lighting, a P.A. system and unique green paint scheme.
This is how #484 looked long before being selected a a museum car. (June 1958)

A 207th St. shops view of R-1 #336 undergoing some kind of repair work involving red lead rust primer paint on parts of the front.
If anyone knows the reason for this work, let me know. (August 1960)

And for the last photo, East 105 St. on the (LL) 14th St. Canarsie line. The (KK) train may have been laid up at Rockaway Pkwy yard or was incorrectly signed.
Did any (KK) service start at Rockaway Parkway ? That 2 door 1964 Chevy Impala would be popular today. (August 15, 1968)
