Regardless whether this was targeted, which is doubtful, I just do not remember so many random, senseless acts of violent, murderous attacks. Some might say it is no different now than it was 10 or more years ago, with the "uptick" due to things like the pandemic or previous underreporting. I do not even see this as cyclical, the ebb and flow of societal norms for any number of reasons. The last time I was in New York City I took the obvious, simple measure for the first time in my life while riding the MTA; that is, standing back from the platform edge at subway stations. All of us have mental and psychological issues to one degree or another. Not so much counseling but mental and psychological treatment is critically important for those on the far end of that spectrum but my sense is that incarceration has become, at least to a sizable number of people, an unnecessary, irresponsible, evil, even barbaric means to help ensure the safety of the innocent. Barely related, since it is by definition "targeted", I just finished reading an article in CNN about femicide in Kenya - I heard of it running rampant in Mexico but not over there... and the world just keeps on a'spinning. The hell is going on? |
