It mostly comes down to the number of mentally ill people out there. Years ago, most crime in the subway was mostly for profit as in muggings. These days there are so many loose cannons out there thanks to the collapse of any serious mental illness/drug and alcohol treatment programs. You chase them off the train, they just get on another one.You never heard of someone just walking up on a complete stranger and pushing him/her on the tracks infront of an oncoming train. The last time I was on the subway, more and more folks are standing nearer the back wall than near the platform edge. The tension in the air is so thick you could slice it with one of those knives used to stab you in the head with. |
