That would happen a couple of months later.It apparently turned out the head of Macy's was very concerned about certain kinds of people shopping in the Jamaica location that they left not long after the EL was abandoned as I suspect they apparently needed that done to protect their flagship store in Herald Square because they likely feared certain racist types with money would refuse to shop in Macy's unless they did that based on what is now known about that time. What they should have really done was not only kept the EL, but extended it down Jamaica Avenue much like I would now do with the current (E) and (J) lines, doing it where the line went to around Queens Village on the LIRR (possibly even being directly above the LIRR tracks to that point) and then turned diagonally onto Hempstead Avenue and continued along that to a new terminal at Belmont Park that today would be right next to UBS Arena. |
