Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Sun Jul 13 10:17:28 2025 Tuscarora Almanac for July 13 1953 – from The Book of Last Runs This is the very last day of steam locomotive operation on the Lackawanna Railroad. Main Line steam service came to an end on June 5. Steam switchers continued to operate in the Scranton Yard until the coal bunkers ran out. The final run was made by made by 0-8-0 232. 1976 – from The Book of Wrecks A Conrail New Haven Line passenger train composed of M-2 cars crashed into another train while entering the New Canaan Station. One passenger was killed and 25 injured. 1999 – from The Book of Last Runs The lower level track (D3) at the 42 Street Station of the IND 8th Avenue Line is permanently taken out of service. It had been used by the “S” Aqueduct Special from 1959 to 1981 and by southbound rush hour “E” 8th Avenue Express from about March 23, 1970 to April 14, 1975. 2015 – from The Book of Last Runs The visitor’s center in front of Queens Borough Hall is closed due to low patronage.
