Dunno about trails, but:- There's no room in NYP, even with LIRR East Side Access;
- Presuming room gets built if Gateway ever happens, the east side (New Haven) MUs either need transformers that can switch overhead wire frequency from 25Hz to 60Hz and vice versa or third-rail contact shoes that can flip from under-running to over-running third rail to use LIRR third rail;
- West side would be a no go what with the west side connection unelectrified and push-pull with third rail not allowed in NYP.
Besides, why would you want that? GCT still has over double the platforms of NYP and NYP is only eight blocks further south and one big block further west.
